The general consensus seems to be in favor of the “new” location for Citiparks’ South Side Farmers’ Market. Every Tuesday from 3:30 to 7:30 PM the market will be set up in the parking lot on 18th and East Carson streets across from Fat Head’s.
Two years ago the market was moved to 21st and Sidney streets, but this year it returned to the previous location. D.J. Jodikinos, part-owner of Jodikinos Farms, said his family has been participating in the market for more than 40 years.
“I think there’s a little less space in here for the vendors, but it’s definitely a lot more visible from the road, and I think it’s more consumer-friendly because they can see us from the road,” Jodikinos said.
Arturo Vizzuett, owner of Cinco de Mayo Salsas, is also a vendor at the market. He said business at the new location is “terrific” because of the pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area.
“Night and day compared to the old location,” Vizzuett said. “It’s just a wonderful, wonderful location.”
It’s not just the vendors enjoying the market’s new home. South Side resident Teo Hollander is also in favor.
“When they switched it, attendance went down because it was difficult to get to,” Hollander said. “We’re happy it’s back in the spotlight and right off the bus lines.”
The city publishes a list of all the farmers’ markets that are held each day of the week in the various neighborhoods.
