Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald is remaining coy about the future of County Health Department Director Bruce Dixon. “We’ll see what happens at the [health] board meeting tomorrow, we’re not going to comment on personnel issues,” said Fitzgerald.
In January the board went into executive session during its regular monthly meeting to discuss Dixon’s future but made no comments upon returning to open session. Fitzgerald appoints five of the nine members of the health board.
Fitzgerald said he is reviewing all departments, agencies and boards under his purview but did note that the health department has not been without its problems and controversies.
“There have been some challenges,” said Fitzgerald, “Certainly the jail health care and some other areas that we need to take a look at.”
Dixon has been the director of the Department for 20 years.
The board meets Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 at the Clack Health Center in Lawrenceville. Dr. Dixon's status is not officially on the agenda under old or new business. However, on the board's web site there are at least three speakers signed up to deliver public comments on non-agenda items and each plans to address Dixon's position as director.
